Undergraduate Education: James Madison University, Bachelor's of Biology; Optometry School: Pennsylvania College of Optometry (Salus University); Professional Achievements and Associations: AOA, MOA; The reason I became an optometrist is because I have always enjoyed interactions with people and believed that I can go to school, train and make a small difference. In my spare time, I enjoy taking Orange Theory classes, running, cooking, reading, home remodeling, and new experiences when time permits. My favorite part of helping my patients is talking to my patients. When patients share their vision/medical concerns and personal stories, I can understand, empathize and better assist in giving them the best vision and recommendations. I appreciate seeing the same patients every year and and getting an update on their journey.

Dr. Vanessa Nguyen is an optometrist practicing at MyEyeDr. in Arlington, TX. With over a decade of experience in the field, she specializes in providing comprehensive eye care services and is dedicated to enhancing her patient's eye health and vision. Dr. Nguyen's journey began as an immigrant to the United States. Born in Vietnam, she and her family fled their home country in search of a better life. After spending time in a refugee camp in the Philippines, they eventually settled in the United States. Driven by her parents' sacrifices, Dr. Nguyen embraced the opportunities before her, excelling in her education and becoming a trailblazer within her family. She earned her Doctorate in Optometry from the University of Houston in 2006 and pursued an internship focusing on pre- and post-operative surgical care, as well as primary eye care in Dallas. Dr. Nguyen holds a license as a Therapeutic Optometrist and is board-certified as an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. Dr. Nguyen's professional experience encompasses a diverse range of practices, including retail, ophthalmology, and private practice. Throughout her career, she has gained knowledge in diagnosing and treating ocular diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, keratoconus, and infections. What sets Dr. Nguyen apart in the industry is her holistic approach to eye care. She believes in building strong relationships with her patients, and taking the time to truly listen to their concerns and needs. By fostering a deep connection, she establishes a solid foundation of trust, ensuring her patients receive personalized and compassionate care. Dr. Nguyen draws inspiration from her mother, who exemplified the qualities of a dedicated and hardworking parent. She instilled in Dr. Nguyen the values of perseverance and kindness, which she carries into her practice and personal life. Dr. Nguyen's guiding philosophy is simple yet powerful: "Be good." By treating others with kindness and respect, she believes that greatness can be achieved in any endeavor. Dr. Nguyen grew up in Arlington, where she attended elementary school through college. She has loved practicing in her hometown for over 10 years. In her free time, she likes traveling, cooking, and eating with her husband and two children. Dr. Nguyen is a local New Orleanian who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana. She then attended Nova College of Optometry in South Florida where she received her Bachelor of Vision Science and doctorate degree. Dr. Nguyen believes that vision is essential for special moments that we cherish, as well as activities that we go about daily. She thrives to protect her patients’ vision so they can continue to experience their lives to the fullest. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and trying different types of cuisines.....

Undergraduate Education: Butler University, Bachelor's of Science in Biological Sciences; Optometry School: Indiana University, School of Optometry; Professional Achievements and Associations: American Optometric Association, North Carolina Optometric Association, South Carolina Optometric Physicians Association, Piedmont Optometric Society (NC), Catawba Optometric Society (SC); The reason I became an optometrist is because I have been wearing glasses or contacts since age 7 and, like many children, did not know what I couldn’t see until I got my first pair of glasses. I wanted to make a positive impact on others and help improve their quality of life, as my childhood optometrists did for me! In my spare time, I enjoy traveling with my family. My favorite part of helping my patients is helping patients live their best lives through good vision and providing education about their eyes. It’s very gratifying to fit a patient- either young or young at heart- in glasses or contacts for the first time and watch them smile simply because they can see better!

Undergraduate Education: Indiana University. Optometry School: Indiana University. Certifications/Awards: I am a member of the Indiana Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. I was a student Fellow during my time at Indiana University School of Optometry. How are you impacting your local community? I practice primary care optometry, and my focus is diagnosis and treatment of dry eye disease, glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration and contact lenses. Hobbies/Interest: My hobbies and interests outside of work include reading, travelling and baking.

How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? Dr. Terry Nisbet has practiced optometry for over 30 years accumulating extensive experience in vision care. His training and experience allow him to diagnose and manage many eye conditions. Dr. Nisbet's areas of special interests include primary care optometry and contact lenses. How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? By providing comprehensive eye exams for patients of all ages, diabetic eye exams, contact lens fittings, and ocular disease management. Hobbies/Interests: Performing in a contemporary dance group, traveling, and trying new foods.

Undergraduate Education: University of Mississippi. Optometry School: Southern College of Optometry. How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? The gift of sight is such a precious one. I want every patient of mine to know that their ocular health and wellness is the most important thing to me in the time that I have with them. There is so much more to an eye exam than contact lenses and eyeglasses. My hope for my patient is that they will leave my exam chair more knowledgeable about their own ocular health than when they entered and feel better equipped to protect their eyes for years to come. Hobbies/Interests: Jogging, decorating, and baking sweet treats for my husband and daughter. We enjoy Ole Miss Football in the fall and traveling when we get the chance.

My favorite part of helping my patients is: Experiencing that instant gratification when patients first put on their glasses or contacts, and they are able to see clearly. In my spare time, I enjoy: Spending time with my family, traveling, hiking.

What drives your passion for optometry? At the age of 12, I received my first pair of contact lenses. I was amazed by the great vision, freedom, and boost of self-esteem they provided. I strive to give that same feeling to all my patients. How are you helping patients live their best lives? By using my skills to provide them with clear comfortable vision. Hobbies/Interests: rooting for my two son’s sport teams and volunteering to aid in preparing team meals.

Optometry School: Pennsylvania College of Optometry. The reason I became an optometrist is: Optometry involves math and physics which I loved in school. It also involves problem solving and critical thinking which makes it challenging. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Experiencing immediate gratification when a patient puts on glasses or contact lenses and immediately sees a difference. In my spare time, I enjoy: Reading and cooking.

Dr. Obenauf did her undergraduate work at Purdue University and received a Bachelor's of Science and her Doctorate of Optometry from Indiana University. Upon graduating, she started working in a primary care optometry practice in Tipton, Indiana for 2 years. She then worked for an ophthalmology practice in Indianapolis for 3 years where she did post operative cataract care and primary care eye exams. She is board certified in the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease and a member of the Indiana optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Obenauf works with all ages and enjoys fitting all types of contact lenses including more challenging fits for astigmatism and multifocal or bifocal lenses. Dr. Obenauf lives in Fishers where she and her husband have raised their three children. When not at work she enjoys jogging with her dog, visiting her older kids at college and spending time with family.

Prioritizing patients' needs and their visual health is my way of helping them live their best lives. Comprehensive exams, diabetic exams, and medical vision care are some ways that I ensure that my patients get the best eye care possible. How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? By providing comprehensive eye exams for adults and children that suit their individual needs. Routine wellness exams, diabetic eye exams, contact lens fitting, binocular visual dysfunctions, and ocular disease management, to list a few. As she looks to further improve the quality of care she provides, Dr. Oleksiv is currently pursuing her functional medicine certification with the Institute of Functional Medicine.
