I am a member of the Connecticut Association of Optometrists and The American Optometric Association. In my free time, I walk for exercise, golf, and play tennis.

Dr. Spencer was born and raised in Northwest Indiana. He earned his Bachelor of Business degree in 1992 from Texas Christian University. He attended the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California. After receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2006, he went on a VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) trip to provide free eye exams and glasses to the underserved in the Dominican Republic. He recently retired from the United States Air Force where he practiced as an Optometrist for nine years. He participated in two military medical humanitarian trips; one to the Arctic Circle in northern Alaska and the other to the Kingdom of Tonga in the South Pacific. His wife, Ruth, is also retired from the United States Air Force, and they are blessed with two sons and a daughter who attend Frenship ISD. Dr. Spencer is a member of the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association, and the South Plains Optometric Society. Dr. Spencer specializes in Glaucoma/Therapeutic Optometry, Specialty Contact Lenses, Family Vision and Laser Vision Evaluations with the Laser Eye Center of Lubbock.

Optometry School: Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? I believe that sight is one of the most vital senses we have. As an optometrist, I can ensure that my patient’s eye health and vision is the best they can be. I provide comprehensive eye exams, and contact lens fittings, and can diagnose and treat ocular diseases. I look forward to seeing the excitement from my patients after giving them their best vision. Hobbies/Interests: Cooking, yoga, and spending time with my family and friends.

The reason I became an optometrist is: The eyes are the windows to the rest of the body! I was always fascinated those systemic diseases can be diagnosed from an eye examination! My favorite part of helping my patients is: I love helping people see clearly! In my spare time, I enjoy: reading, being physically active outdoors, and spending time with my friends and family!

Undergraduate Education: Texas A&M University. Optometry School: University of Houston College of Optometry. How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? By providing quality, comprehensive eye care to children and adults in the Richmond/Rosenberg community since 2004. This includes glasses and contacts lens exams, as well as management of ocular disease, such as diabetic eye exams, and ocular emergencies. Hobbies: traveling, reading.

Specifically, the feeling I get when a child gets their first pair of glasses and experiences a visual world like they never knew existed. How are you helping patients live their best lives? By getting patients to not only see their best but also ensuring the eye is healthy and functioning how it should. Hobbies/Interests: I love soaking up sun on the beach, playing with my two cats, hanging with my wife and friends. My interests include smart home technology which is ever improving/evolving.

Hobbies / Interests - Swimming, hiking, concerts, playing volleyball with my daughters and friends, playing games with friends, watching movies with my family. Dr. Chumbler comes to our practice with over 18 years of experience providing exceptional comprehensive eyecare. She graduated from The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry after completing her dual degrees in Science and Biology. She grew up in the south and loves warm weather and outdoor activities. She moved to Michigan upon marrying her husband, and they have two beautiful daughters. Dr. Chumbler and her family enjoy Michigan’s change of seasons and cheering on our Detroit Lions. She is very active with her daughters’ travel volleyball and softball teams and her family is often found enjoying the tree lighting in our community with their daughters singing in the Christmas choir. Dr. Chumbler is a caring doctor and extends her love for her profession in the detailed comprehensive care she provides to every patient she examines. She treats her patients like family and applies her expansive clinical experience in the care they receive. Dr. Chumbler provides eyecare for all ages and enjoys prescribing prism for patients who have eye muscle imbalances, problem solving patients eyecare needs, fitting complex contact lenses and providing management of ocular disease. I started practicing in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 1980. I enjoy seeing so many of my returning patients and have made many wonderful new friends along the way. The profession of Optometry has been very rewarding. I provide comprehensive eye exams and manage ocular disease. Hobbies: I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy playing golf and watching all kinds of other sports.

The reason I became an optometrist is: I was encouraged by my Optometrist: Dr. Andy Ishak. I have enjoyed working with him in my hometown over the years since I graduated. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Sharing their joy when they realize they can see the world better. I enjoy problem solving for the unique vision needs of each patient. In my spare time I enjoy family time, kayaking, hiking, reading, and gardening.

There is so much new information regarding eye health and so much misinformation that can be found online that it’s important to remain a consistent source of reliable information. What does providing a transformational eyecare experience mean to you? Introducing innovative ways to enhance vision and mitigate the increasing vision stress today’s technology creates. How are you impacting your local community? Providing vision screenings for local businesses and as a member of the local Kiwanis club. Hobbies/Interests: Birding and hiking and active member of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

How are you impacting your local community? I have given back to my community for over 30 years through volunteer services, donations and sponsorships. Dr. Benjamin Steger earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Bioinformatics, with a minor in Biochemistry, at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He then worked as a genetic researcher on chronic Hepatitis B infections and how that can lead to liver cancer, at Drexel University. Afterward, Dr. Steger studied, and earned, his Doctorate in Optometry at Salus University in Pennsylvania. Dr. Steger’s optometric training took him to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to a specialty contact lens site, and to the Santa Fe Indian Hospital in New Mexico, to study Native American genetics and disease variabilities. He then focused on diseases in veterans at the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina, as well as primary care Optometry in both Wilmington, North Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a member of Student Optometric Service to Humanity, Dr. Steger participated in a medical mission trip to El Salvador, where he and his fellow doctors and students provided vision correction and disease treatment to over two thousand patients across their country. He continues to offer his time to the community by offering ocular health screenings at the Black Mountain Neuro Medical Treatment Center, and as a volunteer at the Asheville Museum of Science, where he is currently serving on their Education Committee in an effort to expand interest in the sciences to the Western North Carolina region. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, North Carolina Optometric Society, and Mountain District Society of Optometrists. Dr. Steger has been featured on both WBTW-Charlotte, and local WWNC 570 as a professional guest for Glaucoma Awareness Month. Dr. Steger loves science, especially focusing on molecular biology and genetics, watching scientific documentaries, history, archaeology, hiking, biking, and video games. He is happy to bring his expertise, along with his wife’s, to provide the best eye care to the greater Asheville area, always with his patient’s optimal health in mind.
