Undergraduate Education: Whittier College BA Biology 1997; PCO BS Vision Science 1998; PCO Doctor of Optometry 2001. Optometry School: He is a 2001 graduate of Salus University (formerly the Pennsylvania College of Optometry). Professional Achievements and Associations: Dr. Shields has provided care to his patients in multiple settings before joining MyEyeDr in 2009. He was a Vision Care partner for Walmart Vision Centers in four locations, winning District Doctor of the Year. Additionally, Dr. Shields has worked in private practice, having opened his own practice in 2006 in Annapolis, MD, winning The Capital Gazette’s Top Doctor award. The reason I became an optometrist is: I am passionate about patients and helping them develop solutions that will ultimately enable them to lead better lives. My favorite part of helping my patients is: I enjoy learning about my patient’s visual demands and tailoring custom solutions that help improve their lives. In my spare time, I enjoy: He is passionate about his wife, four children and his St. Bernard and spends most of his free time with his family surfing off his boat on the rivers of the Chesapeake Bay. Annapolis Junior Rowing is another cause which he has passionately devoted his time as Vice President as well as overseeing his children’s rowing careers. He and his family are long time Annapolitans, and members of the St. Mary’s Catholic parish.

Clinical Certifications and Specialties: Geriatric/ Primary Care Residency. The reason I became an optometrist is: To help people see after seeing my grandfather lose his vision due to Glaucoma. My favorite part of helping my patients is: to put a smile on their face. In my spare time, I enjoy: The outdoors (biking, hiking, skiing) traveling and spending time with my family.

Undergraduate Education: Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Towson University. Optometry School: Western University of Health Sciences, Class of 2015. Clinical Certifications and Specialties: Certified in Orthokeratology. The reason I became an optometrist is: To make a difference in every patient's life and help them see all the bright colors of this beautiful world. My favorite part of helping my patients is: seeing their faces light up when they can see clearly again. In my spare time, I enjoy: Spending time with my family and travelling.

Undergraduate Education: I completed my undergraduate studies at George Mason University, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, along with a minor in Computational Data Sciences. Optometry School: I am a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, now under Drexel University, where I received my Doctor of Optometry degree in May 2024. Certifications/Awards: During my time at PCO, I completed the Advanced Studies program in Contact Lenses, graduated summa cum laude, and received the Crozier Memorial award for studies in anatomy and pathology. Hobbies/Interests: During my free time, I enjoy travelling, exploring new places, and learning new skills.

Bachelors of Science from University of Houston with Magna Cum Laude Honors Doctor of Optometry from Midwestern University When I was in middle school, an Optometrist completely changed my world with an eye exam. After getting appropriate correction, I went from a barely passing student to an honor roll student. My confidence soared and I truly believed there was no obstacle I couldn’t conquer. I became an Eye doctor so I could make a similar difference in someone’s life.

How are you impacting your local community or helping patients live their best lives? By providing comprehensive eye exams for adults and children, diabetic eye exams, contact lens fittings, binocular visual dysfunctions, and ocular disease management. Hobbies/Interest: Running and spending time with Husband, my son, and my golden retriever.

Dr. Silbernagel provides comprehensive eye exams for adults and children, diabetic eye exams, contact lens fitting, binocular visual dysfunctions, and ocular disease management. Dr. Terry P. Silke received his doctorate of optometry degree from Indiana School of Optometry in 1969. He served two years of active duty in the US Army, including a tour in Vietnam from 1970-1971 at an evacuation hospital. Upon completing his active duty tour, he continued to serve in the army reserve until retiring in 1996 as a LT Colonel. In 1972, Dr. Silke spent one year as a clinical associate instructor at the IU School of Optometry. He then received a 25 year recognition certificate from The American Optometric Association.

Undergraduate Education: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; BS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Optometry School: Doctor of Optometry from Salus University graduated in 1991. Professional Achievements and Associations: Member of NC Optometric Association. Clinical Certifications and Specialties: Life Coaching Certification; Fellowship from the American Academy of Anti-Aging; Certification in Myopia Management. The reason I became an optometrist is: I like working with patients and it's rewarding to change how people see the world. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Improving their health and wellness by educating them on nutrition or informing them of specific vitamins that are depleted by their medications. If their bodies are healthy then their eyes tend to be healthy. In my spare time, I enjoy: Traveling to different National Parks with my husband and 3 boys, going on adventures with my girlfriends, spending time at Emerald Isle with family, and swimming, hiking and biking with friends.

How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? Providing comprehensive eye exams for adults and children, diabetic eye exams, contact lens fitting, binocular and accommodative visual dysfunctions, ocular disease management, and laser vision correction consults. Dr. Silver has worked in every facet of eye care, including private optometric practice, health maintenance organization, laser vision correction clinic, and ophthalmology practice, both clinically and administratively. Hobbies/Interests: Golf, Fitness, Bowling.

Dr. Sims graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1983 and then again in 1987 with a Doctor of Optometry Degree. Dr. Sims is a member of Michigan Optometric Association and a member of American Optometric Association since 1985. He is also a member of Michigan Laser Eye Association since 1999. Dr. Sims is married to his wife Carolyn, who is the Business Manager at Professional Eyecare Centers. They have three supportive children: Austin, Kyle and Derek. In Dr. Sims’ free time he enjoys golfing, boating, basketball, and spending time with his family.

Clinical Certifications and Specialties: Primary Care. The reason I became an optometrist is: I wanted a job that would challenge me and allow me to make a positive difference in other’s lives. My favorite part of helping my patients is: Helping them see more clearly, meeting their visual needs, and educating them on their ocular health. In my spare time, I enjoy: Spending time with my family and pug, paddle boarding, going to the beach/pool, playing tennis.

Undergraduate Education: Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Optometry School: New England College of Optometry. How are you impacting your local community or helping your patients live their best lives? By helping each patient find the best solution for their visual needs and providing comprehensive eye exams to help maintain their overall health. Hobbies: Enjoy spending time with my family, sports, and trying to keep up with my 3 boys.

A native of Arden, North Carolina, Dr. Sean Skierczynski (“Dr. Ski”) decided to return to his hometown to practice optometry in the community where he grew up. He attended T.C. Roberson High School and then earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Ski went on to graduate magna cum laude from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. After graduation, he completed his residency training in Family Practice at West Tennessee Eye in Memphis, TN where he received extensive training in LASIK and cataract surgery co-management, glaucoma diagnosis/management, pediatrics, low vision and specialty contact lens fittings. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and Mountain District Optometric Society. Dr. Ski enjoys exploring new hiking trails in WNC, playing basketball, and cheering on the Tar Heels. He lives in Mills River with his wife and three daughters.
